How to Brew with a Chemex

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Chemex brewer
  • Chemex bonded paper filter
  • Gooseneck kettle 
  • Digital scale & timer
  • Burr grinder

Measurements

Amount of Coffee: 30g

Amount of Water: 500g

Ratio: 1:16.7

Water Temperature: 30 seconds off the boil

Grind Size:  Coarse, slightly coarser than pour over

Brew Time: 6 minutes

Follow These Steps

Step 1

Heat & Rinse

Bring kettle to boil, place filter in your Chemex, and rinse with hot water, discard water.

Step 2

Grind & Bloom

Add coffee grinds, place Chemex on the scale, and tare. Start timer and pour 90g of water to wet all of your grounds.

Step 3

Pour

After 45 seconds on the timer, slowly pour up to 300g of water in a slow circular motion.

Step 4

Repeat

After 3 minutes on the timer, pour up to 500g of water into in a slow circular motion. Allow the coffee to fully draw down.
